The collaboration between Brillamenti – The Lighting Laboratory Team and the architectural firm of Stefano Boeri, which counts among his best-known projects the Bosco Verticale (or Vertical Woods) in the Isola district of Milan, was founded and strengthened with the creation of two works of great value: Radura and Urban Tree Lounge. Even major and minor magazines of the sector wrote about them.

In fact, Brillamenti lit the two installations created by Stefano Boeri’s architect firm in Milan. Stefano Boeri’s request was to create a light setting that would enhance the shapes of the two creations, bringing out the deeper meaning of both accomplishments.

Light and design, architecture and design. Two worlds come together and enhance each other.

Illuminating an installation like Radura during the Salone del Mobile (Furniture Expo) – Milano Design Week

In Stefano Boeri’s mindset, Radura represents the idea of a public space where a person takes a break, stops, waits…a place of decongestion, opened within a larger area, with a permeable perimeter. A new urban device to dilute the intensity of flows and movements.

An intimate and public space, a place where a new dimension is created within the urban context, offering the experience of an alternative sound atmosphere away from loud city noises. Simply put, a clearing in the city.

The installation consists of a circle of tall and slender wooden columns, each with a diameter of 10 centimetres, which constitute the perimeter of the round platform which also becomes a seating area accessible to everyone. Radura transforms space into an outdoor sound box and at night becomes a bright circle, thanks to the lighting system created by My Led, Brillamenti’s past brand.

Radura’s lighting was designed to emphasize the vertical development of the work.
Plays on chiaroscuro were created via directable beams that clearly show the idea of permeable perimeter positioned in an open space.
The atmosphere created by the light favoured a meditation experience and rest from the hustle and bustle of the outside world.

During the week of the Salone del Mobile 2016, the prototype of Radura appeared in Milan, in the State University’s courtyard, in the city centre. In the central lawn of the courtyard of Ca’ Granda pharmacy hundreds of cylindrical wooden columns were installed that outlined the circular perimeter of Radura. During the Milano Design Week, Radura was the setting for events, presentations, screenings, meetings on various topics, from décor design to the environment.

Radura is a project by Stefano Boeri Architetti firm made by Innova FVG, a public economic agency based in Italy.
